The brief
Microdot launched in 2025 as a London post-production studio, making visual effects and creative content for film festivals, Netflix and brands from Maison Margiela and Nothing to Nike. The craft is precise and mostly invisible, which left the studio without a clear way to show what it actually does. Standard Projects took on the full brief: strategy, brand identity, digital experience and the technology to build it. Microdot operate with pixel-level detail, understanding that profound work demands precision, and that anything less shatters the illusion.
The system
The strategy set the tone with a single line, Rendering Imagination, that holds the studio’s double nature: the imaginative leap of the work and the technical rigour that makes it real. From there the identity draws on the details and minutiae of cinema itself, end credits and light-leaks, slitscans and scrubbers, edge codes and timecodes, the marginalia most viewers never notice. Akzidenz Grotesk gives the system a neutral, exacting voice, so the references stay precise rather than nostalgic, and the brand reads as a working tool of the edit.
The identity
Online, the experience is built to be cinematic without ever overshadowing the work it frames. Cinematic case studies, darkroom treatments, dynamic titling and elegant micro-interactions carry the language of the edit suite into the browser, pacing each project like a sequence rather than a grid. Standard Projects also built the technology behind it, so the site behaves as precisely as it looks. The result treats the website as another surface for post-production, where the interface itself is directed, timed and graded.
Outcome
Microdot comes away with a brand and experience as cinematic and surreal as the work it represents: a way to make precise, invisible craft visible, built from the language of the edit and ready to grow with the studio.
